Every January, FlexJobs compiles a list of the employers who offered the most remote jobs on the site during the previous year. The goal is to give job seekers who want telecommuting options in their next opportunity the chance to target their search.
The good news is that more types of companies are getting on board with the remote model. This allows workers in a wider range of fields the opportunity to work from home, at least some of the time. The top job categories that grew last year were:
- Medical and health
- Computer and IT
- Customer service
- Education and training
- Sales
- Finance
- Government*
In other words, working from home isn’t just for customer service reps.
“The results of this year’s list are in line with the overall growth trends we’re observing in the flexible job marketplace, with increasingly diverse companies turning to the ‘TRaD’ (or telecommuting, remote, and distributed) model of work as an integrated business practice,” said Sara Sutton Fell, founder and CEO of FlexJobs, in a statement. “From an even broader perspective, more people are now professionally engaged in the knowledge economy, which naturally supports jobs that can be done from home. And as more companies embrace remote work in meaningful ways, more people will have greater access to broader career and employment opportunities, creating a positive ripple effect on our economy.”
